SHLP

Society for the History of Linguistics in the Pacific

The purpose of this society is to foster and advance the study of the history of linguistic research in the world’s most linguistically diverse region, the Pacific (embracing the region falling within the scope of Pacific Linguistics).

SHLP is concerned with the history of all aspects of linguistics — documentary, descriptive, theoretical, sociolinguistics, psycholinguists, applications, and so on — and its relation to other disciplines.

To date, most interest has been shown by linguists involved in describing the indigenous languages of the Pacific region. The SHLP is, however, not restricted to this, and encourages the participation of linguists working in other branches of linguistics and related subjects.
