Dear members and prospective members of NISN,

First we wish to extend a Merry Christmas and a happy New Year to all!

We are pleased to announce that the Second NISN Conference will take place 19-20 May 2000. It will be hosted by the Department of English, Uppsala University, Sweden.

The conference will be an interdisciplinary event and , thus, open to scholars, based in the Nordic countries, who work within the fields of Irish literature, history, politics, art history etc. The conference will not be organised around specific key subjects, but will function as a workshop and a forum in which we may share and discuss our research and special interests with each other so that Irish studies may develop and spread further at the institutions of higher education in the Nordic countries.

The conference fee, which does not include board and lodging, will be SEK 200.

When we have heard from you, we shall provide you with more detailed information about the programme, inexpensive accommodation and things to see and do in Uppsala.

Prospective participants wishing to present papers (the presentation of which should not exceed 30 minutes) are asked to submit a title and a short abstract of their paper (100-200 words) by March 31 addressed to:

Dr. Barbro Norbelie

Please indicate if you need 20 or 30 minutes to present your paper. 10 minutes will be added for discussion.

We hope that this will be an opportunity to renew the good spirit and friendship that characterised NISN's inauguration at Aarhus University in October 1998.

Inquiries about NISN may be addressed to Michael Böss, Department of English, Aarhus University.

Best wishes,

Barbro Alqvist Norbelie, Marie Arndt and Michael Böss
