About NORDIC IRISH STUDIES NETWORK (NISN)The Nordic Irish Studies Network is a non-political and non-sectarian academic association. It seeks to promote and encourage the study and teaching of all aspects relating to the society, culture and literature of the Republic of Ireland, Northern Ireland and the Irish diaspora. The network organizes seminars, symposia, and conferences for scholars, Ph.D. students, teachers, and other interested parties. It aspires to encourage discussion among members on topics of Irish interest, and to promote and enhance the interest in Irish studies within the Nordic countries. NISN is organized as an electronic network accessible on this website. The website and secretariat of NISN are administered by the Centre for Irish Studies at the Department of English, Aarhus University, Denmark. ConstitutionArticle 1Name: The name of the association is The Nordic Irish Studies Network (NISN).Article 2Aims: The aims of NISN is to promote and encourage the study, teaching and reporting in the Nordic countries of all aspects relating to the society and culture of the Republic of Ireland, Northern Ireland and the Irish diaspora. As a means to this end, NISN may hold lectures, conferences and symposia for scholars, students, teachers and other interested parties. NISN is organised as an electronic network based on the NISN site of the World Wide Web.Article 3Membership: Membership is open to Nordic and international scholars who have registered with the secretary. Registered membership entitles to the presenting of papers at events held under the auspices of NISN.Article 4General meeting: The general meeting formulates the policy and elects the officers of NISN. The general meeting is held every two years at such times as the executive committee determines. General meetings must be announced at least 2 months in advance. Only members have the right to vote. Each member has one vote.Any matter before the meeting is adopted by a simple majority of the votes given. In case of a tie, the chairperson casts the deciding vote. Nominations for the executive committee may be made by the executive committee or from the floor during the elections at the general meeting.Article 5The executive committee: The executive committee is reponsible for advancing the aims stated in article 2 and for presenting a general and financial report to the general meeting. The executive committee is also responsible for producing and maintaing the NISN site on the World Wide Web, including regularly producing a newsletter. The executive committee consists of a chairperson, a secretary, a treasurer and a webmaster. In addition, the general meeting elects 2 auditors.Article 6Amendments: The present constitution may be amended by the general meeting by a two-thirds majority of the general meeting. Amendments may be proposed by the members of the executive committee and by individual members at least one month before the general meeting.Article 7Dissolution: In the event of the dissolution of NISN, its assets shall be used for purposes compatible with article 2.Back to front page |
