WORK AND INTERESTS
The focal point of my work is auditory perception. I am currently working on my PhD-thesis on the topic of the semiotics of environmental sounds, a project informed by cognitive semiotics, biosemiotics, ecological psychology, and phenomenology. Perception of environmental sounds (that is, sounds that are not specialized as language or music, but the default soundscape of our everyday life) has been largely overlooked in traditional studies of the human perceptual system. Nevertheless, sounds and hearing play a major role in our lifes. It is my aim to give an account of how those sounds carry meaning about the environment to the listener.
Other interests include Nuclear Semiotics, Music Cognition, Diagrammatology, and Dynamical Systems Theory.
I have a background in Musicology from University of Copenhagen and Cognitive Semiotics at Aarhus Universit.
For the spring term 2012 I am residing at Multimodal Interaction Lab, McGill University, Montréal, as a graduate research trainee. I will still reply e-mail in that period.
